Steamed Broccoli With Garlic Butter – Longhorn Style

This Longhorn Steakhouse broccoli recipe is a great way to make fresh steamed broccoli at home! 


With only a handful of ingredients, this easy copycat recipe is ready in under 15 minutes and it is super delicious.

The Longhorn menu is famous for their steaks but they are also known for their delightful classic side dishes. 

The Longhorn broccoli drizzled with garlic herb butter sauce is a favorite menu item of mine, as well as their Seasoned Rice Pilaf and Longhorn Steakhouse Mac, yum!

Ingredients For Longhorn Steakhouse Stye Recipe

  • Fresh broccoli
  • Unsalted butter
  • Garlic cloves
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Fresh chopped parsley 
  • Parmesan cheese – optional
  • Salt – to taste

Let’s Talk Ingredients For Garlic Parmesan Broccoli

The Main Ingredient – 


Broccoli Is considered a nutritional powerhouse filled with vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants.

  • Using fresh broccoli is really great but you can use frozen broccoli as well.
  • Pre-cut florets work best if using frozen broccoli.

The Garlic Herb Butter Sauce

There are 4 small clear bowls. One has chopped parsley in it, one has minced garlic in it, one has 4 chunks of butter in it and the last one has lemon juice in it. All the bowls are on a white marbled surface.

Unsalted Butter – A favorite in the kitchen since the salt content varies in salted butter and can effect the taste of dishes.

Garlic Cloves – You can adjust the amount of garlic to your liking.

  • If you don’t have fresh garlic on hand, jarred minced garlic or garlic powder can be used.

Fresh Lemon Juice – Gives a delightful fresh taste to many vegetable dishes.

Chopped Parsley – A wonderful herb to enhance the butter sauce.

Parmesan Cheese – Optional.

  • Asiago cheese, white cheddar cheese, or provolone cheese can be used.

Salt (to taste) Either kosher salt or sea salt will work. 

Black pepper (to taste) Ground pepper adds a bit of savor.

How To Make Longhorn Broccoli – Simple Steps

Prepare The Broccoli –

  • Rinse, pat dry, and cut into small pieces. 
  • Place a steamer basket in a large pot with a small amount of water. 
  • Bring the water to a light boil then reduce flame.
  • Cover and steam until the broccoli is tender yet still vibrant in color.

While the broccoli is cooking make the Garlic Herb Butter Sauce – 

  • In a small sauce pan melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant and slightly golden.
  • Stir in the lemon juice. 
  • Whisk in the remainder of the butter until it is completely melted.
  • Season the sauce with a pinch of salt and a dash of black pepper. Adjust to your taste.
  • Stir in fresh parsley right before serving.

Variations – 

  • Red pepper flakes or Cayenne Pepper – Shake a little bit right before serving to give this broccoli dish a hint of heat.
  • Ranch dressing Serve on the side for those who just can’t get enough of the tasty condiment! 
  • Balsamic Vinegar or Italian Dressing  – Replace the lemon butter sauce for either one if you want a little more zest.
  • Onion – Saute a finely diced small onion and add it to the herbed butter sauce for extra flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 Large head of broccoli - or 2 small
  • 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 to 4 Fresh minced garlic cloves - approximately 1 tablespoon
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 Cup finely grated Parmesan cheese - optional
  • Ground black pepper - to taste
  • Salt - to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare The Broccoli -
  2. Rinse, pat dry, and cut into smaller pieces. Keeping the florets the about same size helps them cook evenly.
  3. Place a steamer basket in a large pot with a small amount of water.
  4. Heat the water over medium-high heat.
  5. Bring the water to a light boil then reduce flame to medium-low heat.
  6. Cover and steam for about 5-7 minutes, until the broccoli is tender yet still vibrant in color.
  7. While the broccoli is cooking make the Garlic Herb Butter Sauce:
  8. In a small sauce pan melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  9. Add the minced garlic and saute for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant and slightly golden.
  10. Stir in the lemon juice. 
  11. Whisk in the remainder of the butter until it is completely melted.
  12. Season the sauce with a pinch of salt and a dash of black pepper. Adjust to your taste.
  13. Stir in fresh parsley right before serving.
  14. Drizzle the garlic herb butter sauce over the steamed  broccoli.
  15. Grate Parmesan cheese over the top of broccoli just before serving.
