Sharing is caring!

From the seasoning to the crispy edges, this recipe has everything you love about the famous steakburger.

It’s the way the burgers are prepared and their special seasoning that sets it apart from the all the rest.

There are 3 hamburgers on a wood surface. Each burger has two thin beef patties, two slices of yellow cheese, onion slices, pickle slices, and mustard in between a bun.

The Original Double is one of Freddy’s specialities steakburgers.

It consists of 2 thin patties that are perfectly seasoned and cooked until the edges are a little crispy while having a thicker middle.

Each burger is topped off with American cheese, mustard, onion, and pickles. These burgers are very popular and taste amazing!

And although it’s not exactly like the original recipe, I think these homemade steakburgers come pretty close!

There is a white with a two stacked beef patties with yellow cheese on them, onion slices, pickle slices, and yellow mustard. There is a hamburger top laying beside the beef patties. Plate is on a white marbled surface.

 Top Tip

The patties need to be REALLY FLAT.

If you don’t have a heavy duty burger press, use a large solid spatula and grab a large measuring cup or a coffee mug to press down on the spatula smashing the heck out of the patties.

The cooking surface is super hot so make sure you don’t get your hands too close to flame when flattening them!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Freddy’s Steakburgers Made With Fresh Ingredients?

Yes. Freddy’s emphasizes the use of fresh, never frozen beef and high quality toppings.

What Is Freddy’s Steakburger Seasoning Made Of?

It is a blend of salt, sugar, sweet paprika, black pepper, onion powder, turmeric, and garlic salt.

What Type Of Hamburger Bun Should I Use?

You can use any plain bun you like. The smallest, softest, most mass produced buns work best for this recipe.

Also, Freddy’s grills their buns with butter, which add to the yumminess of the burgers of course.

I usually just pop them in the toaster oven for a few minutes to warm up while the burgers are cooking.

Freddy's Famous Steakburger Recipe - Homemade Style

There are 3 hamburgers on a wood surface. Each burger has two thin beef patties, two slices of yellow cheese, onion slices, pickle slices, and mustard in between a bun.

From the seasoning to the crispy edges, this recipe has everything you love about the famous steakburger.

It's the way the burgers are prepared and their special seasoning that sets it apart from the all the rest.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound ground beef (85/15)
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Freddy's Burger Seasoning
  • 8 Slices American cheese
  • 4 Hamburger buns
  • Onion slices
  • Dill pickle slices
  • Yellow mustard - hotdog mustard

Instructions

  1. Gather all the ingredients and have them ready to use.
  2. Place the beef with some of Freddy's Seasoning - about 1-2 tablespoons in a large bowl. Mix well.
  3. Divide beef into rough balls that are approximately 2 ounces each.
  4. Place the meat balls on a hot flat top griddle (400 degrees). You can use a cast iron skillet if you don't have a griddle.
  5. Press the patties down with either a large spatula or burger press.
  6. You need 2 very thin patties for each burger. (see Top Tip) Making 4 patties at a time is perfectly fine since they cook super fast!
  7. Let the patties cook over medium high to high heat for just a couple of minutes until they’re nice and brown.
  8. Then flip them all over, smash them down a couple more times and let them cook for one minute more. Since the patties are very thin, they cook in no time!
  9. Add a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Let the cheese melt 20 - 30 seconds.
  10. The patties will be a little greasy but don't set them on a paper towel to drain. Stack 2 patties together and place them directly on the buns. You want all that goodness on the buns!
  11. Add some onion slices, dill pickle slices and mustard on top of the cheese, then pop the lid on it and enjoy!

Notes

 Top Tip -

The patties need to be REALLY FLAT.

If you don't have a heavy duty burger press, use a large solid spatula and grab a large measuring cup or a coffee mug to press down on the spatula smashing the heck out of the patties.
