Ingredient Notes
To make this cheeseburger pie, you will need a store-bought pie crust to keep the recipe simple and quick, ground beef, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, panko bread crumbs, burger seasoning, which I love in regular burgers (optional), Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, milk, eggs, salt, and black pepper.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Bake the pre-made pie crust per the package instructions. If you have a homemade pie crust that you like, you can use it for this recipe. Other options are a crust with crescent rolls or a crust made with a Bisquick mix.

- Brown the beef in a large skillet and drain most of the liquid before stirring in the remaining ingredients: tomato sauce, panko bread crumbs, chopped onion, garlic, burger seasoning, salt, and black pepper. I use lean ground beef, but you can definitely substitute ground turkey or chicken.

- Spoon mixture into pie crust bottom, making an even layer. In a small bowl, mix the milk and egg. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, dry mustard, and cheese.

- Spoon the cheese mixture evenly on top of the meat mixture. Bake the cheeseburger pie for 30 to 40 minutes in a preheated oven. Let the pie rest for a few minutes before serving.

Laura Belle’s Tips
- Cheese – cheddar is classic, but feel free to mix it up with a combo of cheeses like Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or even pepper jack for a kick.
- Use the Right Pie Dish – A 9 or 10-inch pie pan works best. Glass or ceramic gives even browning. Don’t use a deep-dish pie pan for this recipe.
- Cover Crust Edge – If the edges of the crust start to brown before the pie is done baking, cover them with aluminum foil for the duration.
- Let It Rest – Once baked, let the pie rest for about 5-10 minutes before slicing. This helps it set and keeps it from falling apart when served.
Leftovers
Storage – Cover the pie pan with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat – Place in the oven at 350°F or microwave until warmed through. It’s even better the second time around!
To Freeze – Let the baked pie cool completely, then wrap it tightly or use a freezer-safe airtight container and freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw in the fridge overnight and bake at 350°F until warm.

What to serve with Hamburger Pie
This cheeseburger pie pairs well with:
- Favorite burger toppings: mustard, ketchup, or sour cream.
- Simple green salad: Crisp lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, complemented by a light vinaigrette, pair perfectly with the savory pie.
- Coleslaw: by The Kitchen is my Playground adds a cool and crunchy contrast.
- French fries or Potato Wedges: Because what’s a burger without fries?
- Salads: For the full comfort food mode – Hawaiian Macaroni, Mexican Macaroni Salad, or Potato Salad.
- Warm veggies: Steamed Broccoli or Crispy Brussels Sprouts for a healthy balance.
